Community Guidelines

At Restorative Democracy, our mission is to center the voices and experiences of value-aligned Womxn of Color and their allies, stakeholders on democracy's front lines. We believe that all who align with our mission, vision, and values are welcome to apply to our services and programs. That’s why we must be intentional about supporting the courageous Womxn of Color stepping up to lead.

By applying to and/or participating in Restorative Democracy's services or programs, you agree to comply with these Community Guidelines and all applicable laws, and will not use our services or programs for any unlawful purpose.
We invite you to put down your armor, connect with a values-aligned community, and level up. Our programming is rooted in progressive values that embrace social justice, inclusion, belonging, and equity.

As such, we commit to:

  • Respect each other's identities: We are committed to creating safe, welcoming spaces that honor and affirm the diverse identities present in this community, with a central focus on Womxn of Color and their unique leadership journeys.

  • Use inclusive language: We prioritize inclusive language. Avoid making assumptions about pronouns, backgrounds, ethnicities, sexual orientation, or gender identity. Refrain from using stereotypical terms that may exclude or misrepresent members. Terms like “Y’all” or “Team” are excellent, inclusive alternatives.

  • Take Personal Responsibility: Each member is accountable for their own experience and the impact of their actions on others, contributing to a culture of collective well-being and sustainable leadership rooted in rest and healthy boundaries. Understand that intention does not always align with impact. If harm occurs, acknowledge it and take steps to address the situation respectfully and thoughtfully.

  • Agree to disagree respectfully: Engaging in challenging conversations is part of fostering growth in a diverse community. Approach disagreements with an open mind and mutual respect. Focus on uplifting and supporting one another. Trolling, bullying, or derogatory behavior will not be tolerated.

  • Lead with Authenticity: We encourage you to show up as your full, authentic self, recognizing that vulnerability can be a source of strength and connection within our safe homebase. Embrace the journey of self-discovery and growth that empowers you to lead from your true core.

This is an actively inclusive community, committed to fostering safe and welcoming spaces for Womxn of Color, their teams, government-adjacent professionals, and democracy allies, as well as all who align with our mission. We stand in solidarity with and actively support movements vital to a just and equitable society, including but not limited to:

  • Immigrant Rights

  • Black Lives Matter (BLM)

  • Stop Asian Hate

  • Women's Rights & Reproductive Justice Movements

  • Palestine Solidarity Movement

  • Climate Justice Movements

  • LGBTQ+ Rights Movements

  • Indigenous Land and Rights Movements

  • Disability Rights/Justice Movement

  • Economic Justice/Workers' Rights Movements

We believe that by actively upholding these principles and supporting these crucial movements, we can collectively work towards a more restorative democracy.

Our core values are the bedrock of our culture and our brand. They inform how we interact with our community, design our programs, and advocate for change.

  • Equity: We actively work to dismantle the systemic barriers, such as white supremacy and patriarchal infrastructures, that hinder Womxn of Color in public service. We strive for fair and just outcomes and resource allocation for all.

  • Social Justice: We are committed to fostering a society where all individuals and groups have fair and equitable access to resources, opportunities, and protection from harm. This value drives our work to dismantle systemic barriers and advocate for transformative change in democracy.

  • Inclusion: We actively cultivate an environment where every individual, particularly Womxn of Color and allies, feels seen, heard, valued, and has a genuine sense of belonging. Our language and practices are culturally aware, empathetic, and reflective of the diverse experiences within our community.

  • Belonging: We cultivate a 'safe homebase'—a nurturing, non-judgmental community where Womxn of Color can connect, share, be vulnerable, and draw strength from shared experiences.

  • Wholeness: We believe in nurturing the complete well-being of every individual—mind, body, and spirit—as foundational to effective and sustainable leadership. This value promotes practices that prioritize self-care, boundaries, and a balanced life, ensuring leaders can thrive without sacrifice.

  • Vulnerability: We embrace Vulnerability as the courageous willingness to show up authentically and be seen, even when the outcome is uncertain. This value fosters deep connection, empathy, and strength, creating a safe space where individuals can share their full selves and contribute to transformative change.

  • Courage: We embody courage by confronting systemic barriers and leading with conviction, even in the face of adversity. This value inspires us to take bold action and champion the transformation of democracy, reflecting the bravery of Womxn of Color stepping up to lead.

  • Restoration: We are committed to the process of healing and rebuilding, both personally and within democratic systems. This value guides our approach to fostering well-being, repairing harm, and strengthening connections for lasting impact, embodying the spirit of a "restored democracy."
